Theme: Tiles

Fractiles: Aperiodic Prime Spiral Tessellation

Space-filling aperiodic ceramic tile tessellation driven by prime spiral divergence, recursive fractal subdivisions, and Web Audio acoustics.

Fitting because Porto is a city famous for its tiles
IDEA #1 lightbulb

Design your own tile shop

Design your own tile shop

Allows creating tile arrangements from multiple patterns, creating tesselation between different designs. The tiles on offer can be preset but when user chooses an arrangement, a pattern matching is applied to the edges, such that their edges align.

Tesselation

Design a tesselated pattern

A simple design tool, with a nice color palette preset (based on a theme). It should allow designing a single tile and seeing how it fits with the same tile around it. Multiple different shapes allowed (and include option to have 2 shape pattern that tesselate. The filler pattern should be derivative of the main one)

Window tiling on MacOS

Tiling is cool but it's broken on MacOS

How do I get tiling working well on Mac? I have it set up kind of but it sucks, and the shortcuts in Raycast don't work. How can I fix it. Make a guide to set it up

IDEA #4 lightbulb

Parquet designer

Choose a wood color and design parquets

Parquet is a bit old school, there are lots of different patterns too. Can I have a tool that allows me to input dimensions of a floor and arrange parquet on it, calculating the number of required tiles, etc. Do some research so the tolerances, gaps and such are taken into account

Fractiles

Tiling that creates fractal patterns

Not all tiles must be rectangular, or symmetric. Lets design one that lets me spin out into a spiral that has some never repeating patterns, like the digits of pi. Not exactly: Let me set up properties that follow prime numbers, overlapping sometimes to create intersection patterns.

How It Was Built With AI in 2.5 Hours

1

Spec & Requirements Framing

Selected Idea #5 (Fractiles) from today's Porto Tiles theme and confirmed the spec for a prime-driven spiral generator.

2

The Gap & Repetition Problem

Originally, the tiling didn't work at all. It was just a bunch of tile shapes with gaps, overlapping in a repeating sunflower pattern rather than matching tessellation.

3

True Space-Filling Tessellation

Rebuilt the engine into a continuous Archimedean ribbon where inner and outer curves match identically with zero gaps. Modulated tile arc lengths by prime factors and added 2x2 and 3x3 recursive fractal subdivisions on prime keystones.

4

Arbitrary Tile Limits & Presets

Added direct numeric input to allow expanding tile counts up to arbitrary numbers (up to 50,000), paired with quick presets, instant fill, and auto-fit viewport zoom.

5

Voronoi Border Fix

The Voronoi pattern broke on refinement after ~100 steps at the border because of an arbitrary distance cull. Fixed via distance-sorted nearest neighbor clipping and local bounding capsules.

6

Uncapped Deep Zoom

Removed the 35% zoom-out floor, enabling smooth cursor-centered continuous zoom down to 0.5% with level-of-detail rendering for thousands of tiles.

What Rocked

  • ✓It created a pretty nice set of tiles and presets unprompted.

What Broke & Fixed

  • ✗The voronoi broke on refinement. Originally, the tiling didn't work at all. It was just a bunch of tile shapes with gaps, overlapping in a spiral pattern.

Genesis Prompt: "/spec-implementation"
Interaction Turns: 10 human turns across 243 execution steps

Key Guidance Turns:
  • Turn 2: yes
  • Turn 3: I thought they would be matching and tesselated. It doesn't look like a tiling pattern, and it looks like it's repeating
  • Turn 4: can we increase tile limit to an arbitrary number?
  • Turn 5: the voronoi pattern breaks after about 100 steps unfortunately as well. I think it's when it reaches the border
  • Turn 6: let me keep zooming out
  • Turn 7: /capture-implementation
  • Turn 8: 1. Use my interactions as steps. Make the tone aligned with previous entries. 2. It created a pretty nice set of tiles and pres...
  • Turn 9: can you removed anything you added besides what I wronte for 2 and 3
  • Turn 10: add an actual link to the entry. Currently the page displays a relative path, unlike on other days. Also push
