Daily Care & Best Practice Protocols
1. The 15-Minute Soak & Bath
Eastern Hermann juveniles absorb moisture and stimulate healthy bowel movements through regular soaks. Prepare a shallow tray with water level reaching just up to his lower shell bridge (plastron), keeping Morty's head comfortably above water.
2. Enclosure Misting
Young tortoises require steady ambient microclimate humidity to ensure smooth shell growth and prevent dehydration.
- Lightly spray the substrate, hide corners, and moss with fresh tap water once each morning.
- Keep the soil pleasantly damp underneath, not swampy or dripping wet.
- Morty loves burrowing in slightly damp substrate at night to rest his shell.
3. Feeding & Portioning
As a growing Eastern Hermann juvenile, Morty's digestive tract is built for high-fiber, low-sugar leafy weeds and greens.
- Serve Wet: Lightly mist fresh greens with clean water on his slate to boost daily hydration.
- Calcium Dusting: Sprinkle a tiny pinch of pure calcium powder over the greens 2–3 times a week.
- Fresh Only: No dried commercial pellets (juvenile choking/impaction risk).
4. Climate & Automated Timers
Morty's basking lamp and UVA/UVB tube are connected to automated smart timers programmed for a daily 12-hour cycle (~08:00 to 20:00). You do not need to flick switches each day.
